Our own Dr. Patricia Kennedy Arrington has been named Veterinarian of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association! 

Dr. Patricia Kennedy Arrington, has recently been selected as Veterinarian of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA).  Dr. Kennedy Arrington, is a 1971 graduate of Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine. She and her husband, Rick Arrington, owners of Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center in Louisville, are pioneers in the concept of 24 hour hospital business management and marketing and have been certified by the American Animal Hospital Association for 31 years.  Dr. Kennedy Arrington is also Certified in Veterinary Family Practice. She has also been honored by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) as Woman Business Owner of the Year and by the Better Business Bureau with the Torch Award in Business Ethics. Dr. Kennedy has been married to Rick Arrington, her business partner, for 34 years .  They have one son, Adam.

The doctors and staff of Jefferson Animal Hospitals want to extend their congratulations to Dr. Kennedy.  She has worked hard over the years to move the profession forward and we are very proud to be a part of her team!

LOUISVILLE, KY, October 15 – Jefferson Animal Hospital has been awarded the 2008 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics by the BBB branch that serves Louisville, Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky. The mission of the BBB is to promote trust in the marketplace, and it conducts this annual awards program to “gain public recognition for businesses that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical fashion.” This award recognizes those businesses that have made a commitment to and exemplify ethics and integrity in the marketplace.  Every year, the BBB honors businesses that advertise truthfully, sell in an upfront and ethical manner and build relationships with clients, employees, vendors and the community based on trust and mutual benefit.

Established in 1978, Jefferson Animal Hospital is recognized as a national leader in the field of veterinary medicine.  Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center, our central hospital on the Outer Loop, has been open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to serve both emergency and well pet cases since 1980.  Our sister hospital, Jefferson Animal Hospital East in Fern Creek, focuses primarily on well pet care with an emphasis in life stage medicine.  Jefferson Animal Hospital has been an American Animal Hospital Association certified hospital for 28 years, and it constantly strives to raise the bar in the veterinary profession by providing excellence in client and patient care.  Jefferson Animal Hospitals currently employ 12 licensed veterinarians and appropriate support staff at two locations.

According to Dr. Patricia Kennedy Arrington, the hospital director for both locations, the ethical task of veterinarians is often much more difficult and complex than that of human physicians.  She said, “Veterinarians serve both the animal (the patient) and the client, often with complicated bioethical issues that are much more challenging than those issues faced by other businesses.”  When asked to comment on what this award means to her business and her staff, she said, “We are honored to receive this prestigious award, and we feel privileged to have the ability to do what we love in such a wonderful community.  We are excited that we can set an example for others in our profession by providing the highest quality veterinary care to our patients, while maintaining ethically responsible business practices.”

by the National Association of Women Business Owners

The Louisville Chapter of NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) has named Dr. Patricia Kennedy Arrington as Woman Business Owner of the Year.

Dr. Kennedy and her husband Rick Arrington founded Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville, Ky., in 1978. The original hospital, which started in a small house, has grown to employ 10 licensed veterinarians and nearly 50 support staff working in an 8,000 square foot facility. Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center has been open 24 hours a day, 365 days since 1980. Licensed veterinarians and trained staff are continually on the premises providing well pet care and emergency, critical care services for Louisville and surrounding communities, including high tech equipment and high-touch caring for the out-of-hours, emergency and critical care support of 54 neighboring veterinary practices.

Jefferson Animal Hospital is proud to be an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Since 1980, the practice has been evaluated regularly by AAHA to ensure that it meets or exceeds the association’s standards of excellence. AAHA standards are recognized around the world as the benchmark for quality care in veterinary medicine.

In 1985, the Arringtons opened Jefferson Animal Hospital East at 5400 Del Maria Way as a sister hospital to Jefferson Animal Hospital. The highly skilled and caring healthcare team provides cutting-edge diagnostic and wellness healthcare services for companion animals.

Dr. Kennedy was selected by NAWBO from a list of 50 nominees. During her acceptance speech at a luncheon on March 27, 2006, she said that she is particularly pleased that she has been able to provide an example of excellence within the veterinary profession. “As a practicing veterinarian for 35 years, I have seen rapid changes within our profession,” said Dr. Kennedy. “We have come a long way and this award is a wonderful achievement for all of us who work to raise the bar in veterinary medicine.”
